Hand it to the Handstand iPad case

image

I confess, I am a serial case-swapper.  I get to try out a lot of cases, as a writer for iPhone Life Magazine, so I can pick and choose the right case for the right job.  Maybe it's a waterproof iPhone case for my trip to Cancun, or glow-in-the-dark iPhone case I used on a recent camping trip.  The same applies for my iPad 2.  I have a trade show coming up and I expect to be demoing my apps on my iPad, so the case I will be using is the Handstand.

Make your iPhone "Life Proof" with the right case

image

Being a perfectionist isn't easy.  But when it comes to making a waterproof iPhone case, it's a requirement.  That's why it was nice to see that personality in the folks from LifeProof.  I met them at MacWorld in January 2011, and they showed me a prototype of their upcoming iPhone 4 case.  It was waterproof, dirtproof, shockproof, and even snowproof, hence the name "LifeProof."  I have seen and tried other waterproof cases before, but they were much bulkier and they obstructed the various ports, so you had to fully remove the case to charge them.

Secret of Chateau de Moreau Review - The Best Mystery Thriller for iOS to Grace the Appstore

4:33 Creative Labs look like they have a winner on their hands with the launch of Secret of Chateau de Moreau.  The new game is an adventure/mystery title that utilizes story telling and puzzle solving to suck players in and plot twists and alternate endings to keep them hooked.

Back to school doesn't have to be cruel

image

My daughter is entering Middle School and it can be intimidating. So I was excited to see Be Confident in Who You Are: Middle School Confidential, a graphic novel turned into an interactive, electronic book, complete with audio and visual effects. There are a variety of topics so a student is likely to find something they can relate to, whether it is bullying, body image, self confidence, etc.

The Key to a good Bluetooth Keyboard

image
The gold standard for a Bluetooth keyboard for an iPad is probably Apple's wireless keyboard. But gold can be heavy and expensive, and the Apple keyboard is pricey at $69. A competing keyboard needs to be smaller or lighter, or cheaper or have more features like specialized keys. With that in mind, I tried out some alternative Bluetooth keyboards.

Protect Your New iPad 2!

The iPad 2 is a very well constructed device but it isn't invulnerable. No matter how careful you are, you'll ding it or drop it someday. And when you do, you'll wish you had invested in a case. A variety of cases are available from Apple's online store or another online vendor. Here are some that have caught my eye recently.

Pioneer SE-CL331 Water Resistant Headphones Review

image

Summer is here in the Midwest, and it's been an especially hot week so far. Outdoor sporting activities like biking, hiking and jogging during such weather conditions produce copious quantities of sweat. And on those rare occasions when getting caught in a sudden downpour is a thankful cooling off experience (as long as your electronics are not affected as a result). These are just some of the conditions that Pioneer's SE-CL331 headset was designed to handle.

Headphonies make it fun to share tunes

image

"Awesome!" and "Adorable!" and similar pronouncements were shouted when I displayed the Headphonies® "Stryker" Portable Micro Speaker to my kids!  At first, they thought it was a cute little toy like their plethora of figurines from Disney and Hello Kitty, but when I showed them that it was a portable speaker, that actually performed a useful function, they were really into it.

Visual Design On the iPad

Professional-level apps for the serious artist and designer

The work of iPad screen artists is absolutely stunning; it's hard to believe that such imagery was created with a finger, an iPad, and a few apps.

We all have some experience using our fingers as a drawing tool. Our first introduction may have been fing er paints, poster boards or even drawing on wet sand. As we hone and refine our talent, we extend our skills with pencils, makers and brushes. Reverting back to finger drawing can be uncomfortable at first, but our early instincts quickly resurface, and even the most stubborn of us end up embracing the iPad's touch interphase.

iPad art apps usually fall into two categories: amateur and professional. Let's take a look at the best professional-level, visual design apps on the iPad.

SENA leather cases for iPad - they're like buttah!

image

Leather is one of those guilty pleasures.  So if you're going to indulge, do it right.  I've been enjoying the latest  SENA (http://www.SENAcases.com) for my iPad 2 and they are exceedingly well made.  SENA cases are "handcrafted from the finest quality, full-grain genuine leather" and you don't have to take that with a grain of salt... it's true!
