Griffin Joins the Crowdfunding Crowd with Cove Multi-Device Charging Station

image

Crowdfunding is not just for the independent inventor. Firms as big as Sony have joined the bandwagon and tested market acceptance of new products. Griffin, one of the leading vendors of accessories for Apple and other brands has launched an Indiegogo campaign for the Cove. The Cove is an elegant all-in-one charging station that charged up to five tablets or smartphones, but with a twist. About the size and appearance of a breadbox, the Cove tucks all the wires and devices inside a wood case. Martha Stewart would approve.

The iRig Mic Field ($99.99) is a simple way to capture better quality audio in vids, personal recordings or on-the-go interviews. The newly released external mic from IK Multimedia gives you the flexibility to tilt the mic to Portrait or Landscape orientation while filming and is a good companion for vbloggers, musicians, or just anyone interested in boosting the sound on their recordings.

What You Need to Know about iOS 8.3

image

When it comes to operating system updates, a "dot-dot" release is usually reserved for bug fixes, and a "dot" release adds performance enhancements and some minor new functionality. With Apple, a full release, like 7.0 or 8.0 is a major update, often with 1,000-plus new features. True to form, Apple unleashed iOS 8.3 this week and there are just a few features worth mentioning. First, as I covered earlier, depending on your carrier (Sprint and T-Mobile in the U.S., EE in the UK), you can now make phone calls using Wi-Fi, without consuming cellular minutes or requiring a cell tower nearby. That means you could make phone calls from overseas, for free, and still appear to be calling from your cellphone number.

NeatConnect Wifi Scanner and App Help You Organize Your Life

image

NeatConnect Wifi Scanner is a cloud-based scanner that works with your computer or phone (that's right; no computer is needed!) to store and organize your receipts, documents, and even business cards. After scanning your document, your files are safely stored in one of eight cloud storage locations.

Leef iBRIDGE Mobile Memory Adds Storage But at a Price

image

Leef gave me their iBRIDGE Mobile Memory (starts at $59.99) to try. I wanted to like it, but I have mixed feelings. It does the job, which is to provide extra storage for your iOS device, and allow for easy transfer between those iOS devices and a computer. But there are some deficiencies.

Power Your Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad, and Car with Cyntur’s JumperPack Mini

image

They say you can never have too much money. I don't know if that's true. Shakespeare had King Richard shouting "A horse, a horse! My kingdom for a horse!" I don't ride a horse, but I do have a couple of old convertibles that have had the battery die on occassion, so I can relate. All the money in the world won't help you if your car and phone batteries are dead and nobody is around to help. That's why I was very excited to see the JumperPack mini from Cyntur.

iRig 2 Review: A Guitar Rig That Turns the iPhone into a Portable Studio!

image

IK Multimedia made the iRig 2 ($39.99) product available last week and sent us a review unit to test out. The iRig is a guitar interface that allows you to process signals from any electric guitar and listen to the output on your headphones. It now can send signal out to an amp or PA. I tested the iRig with several of my guitars running into a Line 6 Flextone and a Roland guitar amp, as well as with headphones. I also tested it up against the iRig Pro HD model, and have to say it performed nearly on a par with the fancier iRig model!

image

Audanika has developed several trippy music applications that turn your iPad or iPhone into a synth and MIDI powerhouse. Read on to learn how the new SoundPrism Electro Mini ($2.99) brings more synth magic to your iPhone!

Review: BackBeat Pro Headphones—High Comfort and Bluetooth Sonic Excellence

image

If you are looking for a quality pair of Bluetooth headphones that won't break the bank, the BackBeat PRO Headphones ($249.99) may be the perfect fit. The BackBeat PRO is rich in features, and considering the build quality and specs that these headphones offer, they are definitely one of the better options within their price bracket.

The Apple TV Is Now Just $69, But Is It Worth It?

image

How would you feel if you had just gone out and bought a fancy new Apple product only to have it updated with a newer, better version within only a few month's time? We've kind of grown used to Apple product cycles where products aren't outdated for at least a year. If you think there's a chance that you'd feel at all slighted by spending hard-earned money on a device that's about to become outdated, you may want to consider holding off on purchasing the Apple TV.
