Vainglory Shows Off iOS 8's Next-Generation Video Gaming

image

Vainglory is an upcoming iOS MOBA game that was demoed at today's Apple event. It showed of just a smidgen of what iOS 8's new gaming interface Metal is capable of doing. It's interesting that Apple picked a MOBA to feature at today's event, considering how immensely popular (and profitable) as a professional eSport the genre has become. They clearly consider themselves legitimate contenders in the high stakes arena of professional gaming.

Apple's September Event: Looking at the "Big" Picture.

image

I love Apple's invite to their special media event on September 9. It is both elegant and evocative, conveying a sense of grandness and excitement. One of the first things that struck me about the image used in the invite was that it was an enlargement of Apple's logo, and how apropos consider the anticipated nature of the upcoming event.

You Can Never Have Enough Power, but UNU Comes Close

image

I travel a lot, and depend on my iOS devices during those travels. That makes a reliable extra battery pack an extremely important part of my travel gear. Recently I've been using a UNU battery case ($99.95), but that's specifically for my iPhone 5s. It doesn't have a USB port to power my iPad Air, and when the next iPhone comes out, it won't be compatible.

Kickstart Your iPhone App Development with This Swift Programming class

image

I just learned of (and backed) a Kickstarter campaign to learn Swift and iOS 8 programming. It's being run by a friend and colleague of mine, named Paul Solt. He's an award-winning app developer and a great instructor. I've had the opportunity to attend live training from him, and he's offered video training before, also via Kickstarter, with great success.
