Verizon customers rejoice: The SuperBowl will be available on the iPhone and iPad

image

I love it that sports events are increasingly available via streaming video — and that I no longer need cable service. And now there's one more event that will be available: the SuperBowl. It'll be available on the Internet via the NFL website. But if you want to watch it on your iPhone or iPad, it's only available to Verizon subscribers via the free NFL Mobile app. Read more on Electronista.

Naturespace app immerses you in the sounds of nature

image

Naturespace, one of the top-grossing health & fitness apps, helps you relax by immersing you in the sounds of a natural environment. I have this app and like it a lot. There are over 80 tracks, all recorded by Naturespace team in the wild. And all use a 3-D recording system that gives you the experience of being there. Santa talks to Siri in new Apple commercial

This new commercial from Apple is funny, in case you haven't seen it.

Maybe I was wrong?

There are about a zillion photo apps for the iPhone, or at least it seems that way. When it first came out, I looked at Instagram and thought it was nice, but it didn't really interest me. Since then I've seen many folks use it, including Jack Dorsey. Yesterday, I saw it mentioned as the App of the Year in iTunes. Today, I saw an article about in Wired Magazine (Jan. 2012 Issue). Maybe I was wrong and it's worth another look? In the next few days, I'm going to use it...a lot. I'll get back to you with what I find. How about you? Where do you stand on Instagram? I'm interested to know.

What I played this week - Snow Fight!

image

This week, I really had a blast with Snow Fight, but I was not happy about the game offering up a few appetite-whetting levels, and slapping you with an in-app purchase to continue (not a big fan of in-app purchases)... I put a crowbar in my iTunes wallet and plunked down the fat 99 pennies required to unlock the full 40+ levels remaining (yes, quite the iTunes Scrooge). The first zone of 6 or so levels is gratis, but doubtful anyone will begrudge the additional expense of unlocking the others. Simple fun is priceless after all, and the game does deliver that...

Serious contacts bug for Verizon iPhone 4S users; other bug problems and fixes

image

iPhone Life magazine publisher David Averbach found that his iPhone 4S had a serious bug after updating to the latest version of iOS 5. His phone no longer remembered the names of any of his contacts. A post by Paul Hontz on The Startup Foundry clearly desicribes the issue. Apparently it only affects Verizon iPhone 4S users and only if you update your iOS software over-the-air. According to Hontz, his contacts are still there, but the person's name wouldn't appear if he got a call or text message.
