CES 2015: ReST Bed Shows Off Amazing Sleep Tech

image

A bed with sensors that automatically adjust to your position while you sleep (and retails from between $7499-$9499 depending on mattress size) sounds a bit like a luxury science-fiction story, but it is a real technology on display this year at CES 2015. The ReST smart bed indeed alters the pressure areas from inside the mattress based on your movements and they even throw in an Android tablet (iOS app also available) that monitors and reports on your sleep activity.

Jabra Stealth: A Bluetooth Headset with Big Features in a Tiny Package

image

Jabra has been at the forefront of noise cancelling Bluetooth headsets since the early days of the iPhone. Their most recent headset, the Jabra Stealth, is the culmination of years of experience in a remarkably tiny, comfortable earpiece. I don't normally like Bluetooth headsets because they interfere with my glasses or are uncomfortable inside my ear.

Jamstik Helps with That New Year's Resolution to Learn to Play Guitar

image

A year ago, I bought our daughter an acoustic guitar, complete with instructional DVDs. That guitar has collected dust ever since. But now, I have the Zivix Jamstik which should change that. The Jamstik helps kids (and adults) learn how to play the guitar using tools they are already comfortable with, like an iPhone or iPad and apps. It connects wirelessly via Wi-Fi, or via USB to a Mac. The Jamstik works with over a dozen apps like GarageBand or other MIDI apps, as well as the included Jamstik Connect, JamMix, and JamTutor apps from Zivix.

Take Stable Selfies with iStabilizer Monopod and Shutter Remote

image

Selfies are all the rage, but that doesn't mean they are great to look at. When you hold your arm out and try to snap a photo, it's never going to be as good as if someone else took the shot. There are some apps and Bluetooth gadgets like the iStabilizer Shutter Remote that make it easier to snap the picture, either by clapping or touching a button, but unless the phone is positioned properly, you're still going to get a dud of a photo.

Do Away With Your Wallet With the SAFE Wallet Case

image

If you bought an iPhone 6 Plus, you probably have enough to carry around, so wouldn't it be nice if you didn't need to carry a separate wallet? After all, you can use Apple Pay to pay for many purchases, and for those times when you need a photo ID or traditional credit card, a fullsize wallet would be overkill. The folks at BulletTrain had a case for the iPhone 5 that doubled as a wallet, and now they are using Kickstarter to fund an iPhone 6 Plus version.

Ozobot Is the Future of Smart Toys

image

At the last CES, iPhone Life awarded Best of Show to Ozobot, an emerging technology toy and educational robot system that had great promise. Ozobots ($49.99) are now shipping and we've had a chance to play (and learn) with them over an extended time. Ozobot is a programmable tiny cute robot that resembles the top half of everyone's favorite droid, R2D2. The domed robots can be customized with different color tops so kids can play with several at a time and still tell them apart. The robots get their programming not from a keyboard but via an optical sensor on their bottoms. The Ozobots "read" colors and commands that tell it to go straight, turn one way or the other, or reverse, etc. Kids can "program" the robots by literally drawing with markers on a page of paper. It's a fun way to program without ever touching a keyboard!
