The UNU DX-6 ($79.95) is a fabulous looking (and feeling) iPhone 6 case that comes with a screen protector and a headphone extender cable. The tough and sturdy case can add up to 18 hours of talk time (or 63 hours of music playback or 313 hours of standby time) to your iPhone 6, at least according to the technical specs. The technical hype turned out to be quite accurate in my experience.

After scouring the sprawling sea of tech-gear that is CES, here's a compilation of the best of the adventure-proof, rugged gear that was on display. While not all of the items featured here are available for order quite yet, all of these products are expected to start shipping by Q2 this year, sometime around March most likely. Read on after the break to see what's coming in the world of heavy-duty gear for our iOS devices.

After a long week at the Consumer Electronics Show, it's time to reflect on what we just experienced. CES isn't really just a show anymore; it's a show of shows, each with its own theme. When I get back each year, my friends and family ask me what was "The Big Thing?" Because the show is so big, I've decided to break down the "theme" into multiple themes. This year, the different "big things" were as follows:

You might be asking yourself how a second screen on the back of for your iPhone 6 could possibly be advantageous. But, it turns out the popSLATE actually serves a variety of functions that justify the premium $129 price tag.
So, what kinds of things can be accomplish with the case? More than you may think.

Too many iPhone cases, especially the rugged kind, obstruct the Lightning port and make it impossible to simply dock your phone. STM has gotten around this with their Harbour case in a clever way. First, the case has a wider opening around the Lightning dock than most cases do. I was able to dock my iPhone 6 in the STM Harbour case in several different docks that usually give me trouble with other cases.

You just bought a new iPhone, or better, received one as a holiday gift. It comes in a perfectly wrappable white box, complete with headphone, a charger and a cable for charging and data interchange. It even comes with a bit of iCloud storage for backups and file access.
What more could you want?

Unlike the early days of Apple iOS hardware, finding cases for newly released Apple hardware has become relatively easy, especially when you compare it to the availability of the devices themselves. Within a few days of receiving my iPhone 6, a couple of manufacturers sent me samples. With CES coming up, I’m sure I will see and experience a wide variety of cases within the next few weeks, some variations on existing themes in larger sizes, and others, inspired by Apple’s venture into largess, that are new innovations.
So far I have spent time creating my own innovative solutions, as I mixed and matched cases from multiple sources.

With a slim and elegant phone like the new iPhone 6, you might not want to keep it in a case. But that leaves it exposed to scratches or worse. In that case you might want a slim case like the Tigris Shell Stand Case from Draco Designs. This soft polymer case covers the back and most of the edges of the iPhone 6 but what I like best about it is the leather back. It adds a touch of luxury, which is especially true of the white model.

Your new iPhone or iPad is beautiful but it should be protected. If you didn't get a case this holiday season, Proporta has got you covered, literally. In addition to a wide array of cases and sleeves for iPhones and iPads, they have a 20 percent off sale going on to make those cases more affordable.

OlloClip is the category-defining lens maker that lets users add wide angle, zoom, fisheye capabilities, and more to their iPhone and even iPad cameras. As the iPhone has become the world's most popular camera, it's no wonder that OlloClip has become so popular as well. It's also no wonder that they came out with the OlloClip 4-IN-1 Photo Lens model ($79.99) for Apple's latest iPhones.

Selfies are all the rage, but that doesn't mean they are great to look at. When you hold your arm out and try to snap a photo, it's never going to be as good as if someone else took the shot. There are some apps and Bluetooth gadgets like the iStabilizer Shutter Remote that make it easier to snap the picture, either by clapping or touching a button, but unless the phone is positioned properly, you're still going to get a dud of a photo.

I've shared with you how important it is to protect your iDevices—I was recently able to upgrade to the new iPhone 6 ($299) and received $295 from Gazelle for my "old" iPhone 5S because it was in stellar condition. My new iPhone 6 cost me $4 because I kept a case and screen protector on it at all times.

Videography and the iPad don't usually go together. And that's a shame because the large screen of the iPad and even the iPad mini make for a great video editing tool. Without a USB port or SD card slot, transferring video files to the iPad is a hassle, even with AirDrop. Ideally, you could easily record quality video on the iPad and edit it immediately using iMovie or third party apps.

If you bought an iPhone 6 Plus, you probably have enough to carry around, so wouldn't it be nice if you didn't need to carry a separate wallet? After all, you can use Apple Pay to pay for many purchases, and for those times when you need a photo ID or traditional credit card, a fullsize wallet would be overkill. The folks at BulletTrain had a case for the iPhone 5 that doubled as a wallet, and now they are using Kickstarter to fund an iPhone 6 Plus version.

I am a power user for sure. I have my phone with me all of the time and have even been known to fall asleep with it clutched in my hand. Clearly, putting my phone down so it can charge is not something that makes me happy. I loved the power case I had for my old iPhone 5s, but when the 6 came out, I had to replace it. The good people at A-Solar sent me the Xtorm Power Case AM412 (€69, about $85.53) to take for a test spin. Here's how it went.
