Take the arcade with you, with mobile iCade offerings from ION at CES

image

I've been playing with the original iCade for a few months (see original article here), and it's been great fun, but it sure ain't portable.

Well, the folks at ION have come through. At CES, they showed off their new iCade Jr., which brings arcade-style joystick and buttons from the larger model to the iPhone and iPod touch.

Microsoft Sandwiches at CES - Better than Vista!

image

Ok, not trying to take any cheap shots here (I'm not an MS hater either), but this was my first tradeshow that a major vendor actually gave out something that I needed... I mean it was late in the day, and we were hungry, so I have to say thanks. Microsoft had folks outside the show handing out cold-cut sandwiches during CES, which of course just begs several cheeky comments that I won't attempt. Like...

Car Audio at CES - The Car Show at The Electronics Show!

image

Car Audio at CES is like a show within a show. Not only do you get to check out the latest in-car gadget tech, you get to see all the latest tricked-out rides the vendors bring to show it off in. Audio, of course, is an expected category at a big electronics show, but the latest in-car equipment not only pumps out your jams, but manages your device so you can keep your eyes on the road.

Tablet Teddy Bears are like Pillow Pets for the iGeneration!

image

It was inevitable. As iPads find their way into the hands of kids (my kids inherited my iPad 1 when I upgraded to the iPad 2), we are seeing a whole new line of kid-friendly tablet accessories.

The latest examples are from Dean Designs and include Tablet Teddy Bears, Tablet Pet Pals, and Tablet Bean Bags. They are all cut from the same cloth, so to speak, which is a variety of cozy, stuffed animal style fake fur, with places to prop up an iPad or other tablet.

The iPad goes retro with Etch-A-Sketch from Headcase at CES

image

The iPad was meant to be turned into an Etch-A-Sketch! With the officially licensed Etch-A-Sketch case, from Headcase, combined with the iOS app, you can wow your friends, classmates, and colleagues. Everyone has thought of it, but Headcase went ahead and did it, for both the iPhone and iPad.

You can't help but smile when you see the case. And when you use the app, it all comes back to you. Of course you can shake it to erase it... It wouldn't be legitimate without that feature!

Give your iPad some ballz with iBallz at CES

image

I saw the iBallz folks at MacWorld last year, when, true to their name, they were displaying their products guerilla-marketing style... No booth, but showing their products to anyone who would give them a chance. What a difference a year makes, as they had a serious booth at CES and will also be there, officially, at MacWorld.

Integrate your Apple Bluetooth keyboard and Magic TrackPad with the BulletTrain Aluminum eXpress Keyboard Platform

image

For all you Mac users out there: Do you have a disorganized desktop? The Aluminum eXpress Keyboard Platform from BulletTrain (available this March) is a clever solution that positions the trackpad below the keyboard, and adds a palm rest.

The Aluminum eXpress Keyboard Platform is similar to an oversized MacBook, but you get a generously sized trackpad and everything is arranged in a comfortable, elegant manner.

More CES - Pump up your gadget time with Juice Pack from mophie!

image

Sometimes you need to be able to pull out the big guns, right? Like when you type and type, with seemingly no end, and you realize at the last instant before you hit the send (or the save) button that your device is critically low on power and is about to shut down (this happened to me here at CES). Oh yeah, you know the terror I'm talking about. You are hoping to God it sends or saves properly before time runs out. What can you do to prevent this from being a recurring problem? Use a bigger battery...mophie has one called the Powerstation Pro--a sealed up mini-monster that should keep you typing for days, and under practically any field conditions.

BodyGuardz at CES! - Protect your device!

image

BodyGuardz had mucho awesome new screen and device protection stuff here at CES. One new item--which made me wonder why I havn't seen this before--has interchangeable back cover panels that come with the case. But wait...there's more. You want to create a custom cover from a pix you snapped in Hawaii, upload it to the BG web-site, and have them send you a custom panel? You can do that too with the new customizable mykase.

What's better than going pro with GoPro? Optrix has an idea, at CES!

image

I have had my eye on one of thos cool GoPro waterproof cameras that you mount to your helmet.  But at $300 plus various accessories, it was hard to justify.  So while wandering around CES, as soon as I saw the Optrix, I knew I had a solution.  As John Willenborg, the inventor of the Optrix HD points out, you already have a great 1080p videocamera, so why buy a GoPro when you can make a rugged case for the iPhone 4 or iPod touch.
