Want an Apple Watch With Better Battery Life? Get the 42 mm One

image

At the Apple Watch announcement, Apple didn't spell out the differences between the 38 mm and 42 mm versions of the Apple Watch, but we are learning now that the larger device has a larger battery. It makes sense, from what we learned about the new MacBook. Apple loves to cram batteries into every nook and cranny. There is a precedent, as the iPhone 6 Plus has a larger battery than the iPhone 6 (but it also needs a larger battery to power the much bigger screen.)

EZCharge Could Be the Best Car Charger You Can Buy

image

Bracketron gave me an EZCharge ($24.95) Dual High-Speed USB Charger to try. It could be the best car charger you can buy, and I say that because very often, such car chargers are free, as promotional items. But in this case, you get what you pay for. This car chargers offers a lot of features that make it worth paying for.

March 9 Apple Announcement: Surprise! Apple News We Didn't Expect

image

Apple normally tries to be super secretive before an announcement, but the Apple Watch was an anomaly. Apple took the rare step of introducing it months before it was shipping or even finalized. As Apple did not have a smartwatch product line to protect, they could afford to do so. Plus, it froze consumer purchases of competing gadgets. Still, we didn't know everything about the Apple Watch, until today. And we still have more to learn, once it reaches consumers' hands (and wrists!)

Seconds Play a Role in Last Minute News About Apple Watch

image

It's almost time to set our watches ahead one hour, which could be the last time many of us need to do that manually, if we own an Apple Watch by this time next year. Last minute rumors coming out of Cupertino offer a little more insight into how the Apple Watch will be used. Apple has allowed a select group of developers into their secret laboratory in order to test their apps on the device. This is a top-secret lab that is harder to break into than a political candidate's private email, and certainly harder than Sony Pictures!

Prong is Back, with a Battery This Time

image

The Prong case was one of the most promising cases when it debuted at CES 2014 a little over a year ago. It was the first, and only, case to include retractable prongs allowing it to plug directly into a wall socket. No need to carry a microUSB or Lightning cable.

The Apple Watch That Never Was

image
We will be getting the Apple Watch soon, but it may not be the watch we could have had. As powerful as the Apple Watch will be, Apple reportedly had more ambitious plans for their first generation wearable, but they were axed for several reasons, including regulatory approval. If Apple were to start making medical claims, they would need approval from the FDA. While the watch will have a heart rate sensor, the dropped features include tracking of blood pressure and stress levels. Apple apparently couldn't guarantee accurate results, as there are too many variables, such as how tightly the watch is worn.

Do You Want a Smartwatch That Is Also a Smartphone?

image

The latest news about the Apple Watch reveals unimpressive battery life, yet at the same time, AT&T and others are suggesting that a smart watch really needs to function as a cellphone, independent of a smartphone. This is a bit of a money grab by cell providers who want customers to pay yet another monthly fee for yet another smart device. But does it make sense for end users?

Big Boost in Batteries, But Only for Calculators

image

We love our iPhones, and soon, our Apple Watches, but the biggest complaint with such devices is battery life. As these gadgets get smarter, bigger, and faster, the battery life has remained fairly constant. That means battery technology is improving, but only at a pace that matches the power-hungry new features. That accomplishment is, and should be, considered remarkable. But it's not enough. The Apple Watch is rumored to get between 2.5 to 4 hours of heavy use or 19 hours of light use. Can't we do better?

TP-LINK 10400mAh Power Bank Serves with Distinction

image

There are a lot of portable battery packs out there, so to distinguish themselves, battery makers have to offer a combination of features that are unique. The TP-LINK 10400mAh Power Bank does so in a few areas. First, obviously, it offers 10,400mAh of power. That's a lot and rarely found in such a compact unit. The result is, you can recharge your iPhone up to five times. This is possible not just because of the battery size, but the energy efficiency of the charger.

Review: Incipio 1450mAh offGRID Backup Battery Case

image

I'm off to Las Vegas today for fun this time, not a conference. That means that once I leave my hotel room, finding a plug may be possible, but sitting in a casino tethered to a wall just doesn't seem right. And I don't think you get free drinks for increasing your place on the Angry Birds Game Center Leaderboard .

I want to wander Vegas all day (and all night) without worrying about my iPhone 4s withering its battery away in my pocket. So i'm bringing the Incipio 1450mAh offGRID Backup Battery Case which offers good protection for the phone, including a screen protector–and extra power without too much extra weight.
