The one and only REAL iPhone Instant Messenger roundup

image

With the Push support in the iPhone OS 3, the iPhone has become an excellent platform for instant messaging.

Before the Push support, you could only keep them listening using hacks like Backgrounder on jailbroken devices or using clients that forced the entire phone remain “alive”. Neither is an optimal solution. Now, the Push support provides the platform with something that, in some respects, is even better than the current instant messaging support on competing smartphone operating systems (at least Symbian S60, Blackberry and Windows Mobile).

Update on Bento

After using Bento for a few more weeks, I am really sold on it! It’s the best database I’ve found that works with an iPhone app and I’ve tried them all. The Bento app is simple, but it serves its purpose. The real workhorse is the desktop application.

Wanted: Foldable, Portable iPhone Keyboard

image

Attention product developers at MacNally, Belkin, etc. For the love of all that is holy can someone please develop a foldable, portable external keyboard for both the iPhone and iPod touch. Am I the only one who has been dying for one of these to be out on the market? I know that MacNally had created a bluetooth external keyboard last year that never made it to the market due to the fact that it required a Bluetooth connection which was not available until this past week when the iPhone 3.0 was released.

Bento - The Database App for Every Day Use

image

If you’re looking for an easy-to-use, portable database, the Bento app wins hands down. You can catalog your DVDs, plan a party, create a recipe file, keep track of upcoming events, photograph and inventory your home, and maintain a vehicle maintenance log. You can create invoices, file documents for easy retrieval, and keep track of expenses.

Book Shopping is More Fun with xLibris

image

I love books. The problem is I forget which books I have. Consequently, on too many occasions, I’ve bought the same book more than once. But not any more!

Now, I have xLibris by Option-X (v 1.2.1) installed on my iPhone. xLibris is a full-featured book database that sorts my books by title or author. I can easily search my book database while at the bookstore, and no more duplicates!

Keeping Myself Organized with Ultimate ToDo

image

One of the apps on the front page of my iPhone is Ultimate ToDo's, v 1.4. I use this little gem for my personal life, my college life, and in my work. Unlike some of my other apps, I've used this one for several months now, and I'm extremely happy with the product.

Here's how I use Toodledo:
