I like Flipboard, but recently have started using Pulse, and in this review, compare it to the other great news and RSS aggregator/reader for iPad. Each is excellent in it's own way, though I must admit, the side-scrolling rows that Pulse collects your feeds into are perfect for quickly scanning through content. However, I like the large splashy news displays on Flipboard and the magazine-like page turning...ahhh, 2 awesome readers, so what's a geek to do..?! Use both...

Three things amaze me about Flipboard: 1) it's astonishingly high ratings in the App Store, 2) the fact that such a great app is free, and 3) that it made me want to start viewing my Facebook and Twitter accounts again. I kept hearing about Flipboard, and I kept ignoring it: yet another aggregator of social media and RSS content. But then I tried it, and was immediately hooked.

Last week I posted that Time, Inc had begun making its magazines available for free to subscribers via iPad apps. Now Conde Nast has made The New Yorker available for free to subscribers via its New Yorker iPad app. You can read more on Macworld.

Back on April 1st, fellow blogger Steve Overton posted about a free news app called Zite. His link is below as it has a great video demo and link to the app store.

I have been using it for a while also and I really like it. The app is easy to set up and use. After a bit, it will actually learn what you like. Steve hit the nail on the head when he said that much of it was "pleasing on the eye." I keep customizing the topics and adding more stuff.

Haven't done this in awhile, so maybe I should call this "What I played this quarter!". I had to post up on JetCar Stunts though, since it's the latest game I can't stop playing (it's not a new title--released in 2009). Crazy addictive time killer is what it should be called!. Featured in iTunes essential games, you can grab it here at $1.99. Expansion course packs also available. The concept is to race through 3D high-flying aerial stunt courses with your rocket powered jet car (who wouldn't want one of those)... More app news follows...

I enjoy using my iPad to read the latest news, and I'm excited about the free app Hitpad, which I just learned about. It has a gorgeous interface and, as the press release says, It distills the news about the most important topics of the day. Very similar to Google News, it presents trending topics and aggregates a wide assortment of content related to them: news, videos, tweets, web, and photos. It has trending topics in these categories: Top Stories, Entertainment, Business, Sports, Technology, and U.S. New.
