A New Way to Give: Shopping!

image

I love apps that not only are useful, but make me feel good. The Real Miracles app fits the bill perfectly.   This app supports The Children’s Miracle Network, which is one of the leading children’s charities in the world that helps in fundraising efforts for 170 Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. With this app, you easily find out more information about The Children’s Network, the children it is helping, or local Children's Miracle Network hospitals. Making a donation is easy: you can use your Paypal account or simply add $5 to your phone bill with just a few clicks.

BNB - Be Nice to Bunnies app helps avoid animal cruelty

image

Sometimes PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) seems a bit extreme. On the other hand, you really can't argue with the goal of this app. If you're shopping and you need to choose between a couple products, why not select the one that's cruelty-free? PETA's BNB app (Be Nice to Bunnies) is a cruelty-free guide that gives you instant access to a database of companies that do and companies that do no test their products on animals. Plus, 15 percent of every $1.99 download goes to further PETA's work in behalf of animals.

Free software: scan bar code, get info from Amazon

image

If you're out an about and want more information on a product or if you want to compare the online price with the store price, you can quickly and easily get that info using the Cyclops app. It uses your camera to snap the barcode and then returns the information from Amazon. And it's free. It got a lot of bad ratings, but that seems to be partly because people tried to use it incorrectly or on an older phone. For now it only works with the camera of the new iPhone 3GS.

Makeover Madness

A recently released app by Cactus Publishing, aBeauty Pro, offers women the opportunity try a make-up makeover without leaving home and or spending any money.  My first criteria for picking an app is a good description, and this hooked me right away!  What woman doesn’t love a makeover?

Quit Smoking

Quit smoking!

By now, everyone should know that smoking has all sorts of negative effects on your health. However, those who have smoked all their lives often have trouble quitting. I checked out an iPhone app called GottaKickit.

GKi lets you set the number of cigarettes you’re allowing yourself to smoke, and then the app tells you when you can take that smoke break. The interval is gradually increased, and eventually you are on your way to becoming smoke-free. You indicate that you’re having that cigarette by flicking the flame on a virtual lighter, and then the app tells you when your next smoke is due.
