Gaming Strategy Guide: Sentinel by Origin8

image

Despite the low price ($2), probably one of the best Tower Defense games for the iPhone is Sentinel by Origin8. The title is highly popular; no wonder a sequel has just been announced, slated for June. I highly recommend it - apart from the repetitive in-game music, it's excellent.

Review: Treasures Of Montezuma

image

The reality is that match 3 games - the genre made famous by the game Bejeweled - are currently a dime a dozen in the App Store.  So what does a developer need to do to make their take on the match 3 game stand out from the crowd?  I'd say that taking lessons from Treasures Of Montezuma would be a great start.  I have several of the hotly anticipated iDevice titles that have come out over the past couple of months sitting on my device, yet I find myself continually drawn to playing TOM instead.  To me that speaks to both the addictive nature of the genre and the creativity the designers employed to make TOM a match 3 experience unlike most others on the iDevice.

Game Review of Peggle for iPhone and touch

image

There are few games that can display an eye-rolling status message of “busting rad moves” during the loadup phase of the game and survive to tell about it, but Peggle might be able to get away with it. If one’s tongue stays firmly in one’s cheek while they play, that is. The graphics are cheerily cartoonish, and the gameplay is engaging and fun to match.

It’s truly amazing how many games and accessories come out each week for the iPhone and iPod touch, making it tough to keep up on which are hot and which are duds (and there are plenty of both). Functional and Fun are two words that come to mind with the following, check them out!

Quick Look: Eat Will Grow

image

Eat Will Grow was one of those "hey, it's temporarily free so let's grab it" type downloads. As it turns out, I'm glad I did. The premise is simply to last as long as you can before colliding with what I would describe as a mine. Along the way you'll collect rings for points, but the rings will cause you to grow over time (it's sort of like the old snake game except you grow bigger around rather than longer). You can also collect a power up that will temporarily either speed up or slow down the flow of the game.

The MYST app is available for the iPhone!

image

Today, I discovered the Myst app for the iPhone. MYST was my all-time favorite game when it came out on the Mac, so I HAD to buy the app for my iPhone this morning.

I haven't spent much time on it yet, so I'll report more later; but so far, I'm impressed! The graphics and sound effects are just like I remember! It navigates easy once you learn the tricks. The help section will tell you all you need to know to get around.
