Flynn Lives in TRON Legacy & beyond

image

As a kid in the '80's, I grew up playing Kevin Flynn's videogames such as Space Paranoids and of course, TRON.  So naturally I believe that Flynn Lives... how could someone so brilliant just disappear?  Now there's a documentary, TRON: Legacy, that suggests he may have evolved into something different... something extraordinary.  I don't know what to make of it, but you should check it out for yourself.  If movies aren't your thing, there's an app for that.

Quick Look: iSwifter Flash Video Fools Gold

image

Flash video and the iPad work together about as well as Karl Marx and a Capitalist market. Or something like that. Since the dawn of time (early 2010 according to Steve Jobs) man has struggled to find an end to this conundrum, by finding a way to display Flash content on the iPad. Various entrants have attempted this feat, but none has been able to seamlessly play Flash video while browsing. The latest entrant to attempt to end this struggle comes to us from iSwifter.

Here is what iSwifter promises from within the app, “full-featured Flash web browsing.” A pretty bold claim, if you ask me. Let’s see how well it holds up under scrutiny.

eSeats -- free app for booking tickets helps you find nearby events

To tell you the truth, there's not much of a need for this app here in rural Iowa. But if you're in the market for tickets to events and entertainment, eSeats Tickets may well be, er, the ticket.

#macworld2011 -- Wigglehop, free app for creating your own custom movie listings

image

One of the fun things at Macworld was meeting developers and seeing demos of apps that likely would never have come to my attention. Tyler Young stopped by our booth, and I was impressed with the elegant and intuitive design of his free app Wigglehop.  It's unlike other apps that show movie times, because you don’t look up showtimes with it so much as build your own custom movie listings. His demo was pretty slick.

Mum & dad team from Australia create educational iPhone app for kids

Mum & dad team from Australia create educational iPhone app for kids

February 7th – Perth, AUSTRALIA – With the rapid growth of iPhone sales worldwide, more and more mobile devices are ending up in the hands of young children. They are the perfect distraction when mum or dad needs some peace and quiet around the home, in the car, or when the family is out and about.

“Our 2 year old daughter absolutely loves my iPhone. Even before she could talk, she knew how to unlock the phone, find her favorite app and play a game,” explained Josh Bender, co-founder of Extra Smart Apps. “It was truly amazing to watch her learn and grow using fun, simple educational apps on the mobile phone.”

This inspired Josh and his wife, Erin, to create an iPhone app for their daughter to learn animal names and sounds in a fun, interactive way.
