Nate Adcock's BEST of 2009

iPhone Life Staff's Favorite Apps

It's the beginning of the New Year, and everyone is publishing their lists of the best iPhone apps for the previous year. Below are the iPhone/iPod apps I used the most in 2009.

Games

Second on my list of favorite games is Real Racing ($4.99; firemint.com), a very life-like racing game. My short list of additional honorable mentions includes Battle Bears ($0.99; battlebears.com) and Jelly Car 2 ($0.99; walaber.com).

Productivity

Task2Gather

($0.99; task2gather.com) has great task/time management features and a collaborative task sharing capability.

i.TV Bounces Back, but is the App Store a Stove Pipe?

image

i.TV is one of my favorite apps... The reason is that I hardly ever watch TV. You see, because I'm a cable remote dummy, it takes me forever to find shows/channels. It's great to be able to quickly pull up an easy to navigate listing, even tune in previews and rent movies right from my iPod touch. The app had some recent challenges with stability evidently, and it's top rating suffered as a result (was even pulled from the store at one point). It then took a double-wammy due to a problem with Apple's download services (erroneously sending an old version).

Free i.TV 2.0 now available

In an earlier post I noted that i.TV 2.0 had been announced. And now it's out. This free app is billed as "the only movie, DVD, and TV guide you'll ever need." The new version lets you use your iPhone or iPod touch as a remote control with a TiVo, and more devices are being added.  The new version also includes a streamlined interface, push notifications, and more.

Free i.TV app soon available in version 2.0

i.TV today announced the imminent availability of version 2.0. Already this app was promoted as "the only movie, DVD, and TV guide you'll ever need." Version 2.0 includes the "i.TV Remote Control Framework," which allows third parties to integrate functionality into i.TV. And the first to do so, is TiVo. You'll be able to use your iPhone to change the channel, fast forward, record, and play your favorite shows and movies with just a tap on your iPhone or iPod touch.
