Paper Racer

Review: Paper Racer by Black Coal Studio

image

I would say that the top down, overhead view is probably my favorite way to look at racing games.  It’s no surprise then that I would be drawn to Paper Racer.  The truth is that at its heart, the game is a solid racer with cool tracks and a decent control scheme.  Unfortunately, there isn’t much in the way of bells and whistles.  That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but with as many offerings as there are in the App Store, it’s all the little extras that make one title stand out from the pack.  Now it is true that you can import your own images for your car, but even that’s been done before.

What I played this week - My favorite games with the JOYSTICK-IT!

Out of town on business, and didn't have much time for games, but when I returned this weekend (to be greeted by Hurricane Irene) I had finally received a package with 2 JOYSTICK-IT Arcade stick game accessories (bought one for my daughter) from my fav geek site ThinkGeek.com! So, after battening down the hatches, I wasted no time trying one out on several of my favorite games (Galaxy on Fire 2, Jet Car Stunts, and Paper Racer), and wow is this a simple yet worthy add-on! Read on for more info and to check out my action videos...

What I played this week - iBlast Moki and Paper Racer!

image

Weird physics puzzle game called iBlast Moki (currently free) which involves setting timed explosive charges, the force of which will propel cartoon heads toward and hopefully into a target. The jingly music has a pleasant quality and the graphics are very lucid for a cartoon-ish game. It is all strangely compelling (see trailer after the break for version 2) for a half-hour or so. In other news, still trying to beat all the Paper Racer levels on the iPod (having done so on iPad)...

What I played this week - Bonjiovi DPS!

image

iLounge recently reviewed the Bonjiovi DPS app, and gave it a positive review (B-), so figured I would check it out (esp. being free). I agree that the app improves iOS sound quality, at least coming out of my iPad (due to Digital Power Station's real-time audio re-mastering), but maybe not enough really to make me give up the built-in player apps. In other "what I played" news, Paper Racer and Jet Car Stunts are still my picks for casual game time. Read on for my review of the free DPS app.

What I played this week - Paper Racer and Jet Car Stunts!

What I played this week?...hmmm. Well, I am really stuck in a loop with Jet Car Stunts, and will probably grab the level pack soon, as am tiring of the initial courses (still haven't completed all the time trials). I played a mucho cool new game this week called Paper Racer. For some reason, it makes me think of my old slot car racing set. Read on for the review.
