There’s no shortage of quality Bluetooth speakers on the market. The field gets narrower as one looks for high quality rugged Bluetooth speakers, and narrower still if one is on the hint for a rugged and highly portable Bluetooth speaker for adventuring with.
Recently I had the opportunity to try out the awesome new Buckshot ($49.95), a rugged mini Bluetooth speaker from one of my favorite manufacturers of go-anywhere gear, Outdoor Technology.
The words hustle and grind are often used by rappers, but often those buzz words fall flat of reality. Yes, there are some who take the mantra and give it credibility, but others are just spitting empty words. Fat Tony, the indie-rap pride of Houston, Texas, exemplifies the spirit of the grind.
I’ve checked out just about every rugged-protection, Bluetooth speaker in the market, and I have to say, Grace Digital’s ECOROX ($129.99) gets my vote for Best Overall Rugged Bluetooth Speaker so far this year. The ECOROX is an excellent example of meticulous attention to practical detail and functionality. It has all the features anyone might want in a highly portable, heavy-duty Bluetooth speaker, including delivering awesome sound and providing some of the most durable and comprehensive adventure-ready reliability in a Bluetooth speaker. Did you know that when you purchase a new set of headphones they are not at their optimum performance out of the box? I didn't, until I discovered Moshi Audio's Burn-in Tool (free).
A while back I reviewed Moshi's Dulcia in-ear headphones. They had a great sound, but I read that to make them perform even better it was recommended to download and use the Burn-in Tool app.
I recently interviewed Moshi's director of product marketing, Spencer Pangborn, by email so he could explain how the headphone burn-in process worked.
One of our editors here at iPhone Life recently asked me which pair of headphones I would vote for as best headphone of the year. Without hesitation I replied that in my opinion Phiaton’s Bridge MS 500 ($269.00) deserved that honor. These uniquely crafted headphones take precision sound sculpting to a whole new level. And when I use the word sculpting, that is exactly what these superior headphones do. Like a master sculptor, the Bridge MS 500s take the acoustics of whatever you're listening to and mold and funnel the sounds to get the maximum dynamic range out of each and every note.
Wow! That's the word that first comes to mind when trying to describe just how amazing 50 Cent's new SMS Audio Street ANC headphones ($279.95) are.
50 Cent is know for his hardcore gangsta rap and controversial lyrics, as well as some seriously heavy bass lines. Discovered and managed by none other than Eminem himself, 50 Cent has gone on to transcend his rap star status and become a successful actor and businessman as well.
I got a chance to chat with 50 Cent at this year’s CES in Vegas. He was in town promoting his new line of headphones. We didn't get around to talking much about his headphones (it was Vegas after all), but I enjoyed our one on one a great deal, and he did offer to sign an autographed copy of iPhone Life magazine for me. It was only later that I came to realize what an amazing pair of headphones 50 had attached his name to. Look out, Beats by Dre ($299.95), there's a new contender on the block!
I sometimes review fancy wireless speakers that cost a load of cash, have slick AirPlay capabilities, as well as multi-speaker/room playback. I never dreamed that my iPod and iPhone coupled with some old 30-pin speaker docks could create an immersive music experience. The secret is TuneMob, a free app that works with Bluetooth. So next time you throw a party, you and your friends can string together as many as seven iDevices to amp up the sound.
