A wide variety of educational apps for all grade levels is available in the App Store. The Education category currently offers 59 pages of apps that cover preschool through college. You can improve language skills, bone up on basic and advance math, look up words or concepts in a dictionary or encyclopedia, learn a foreign language, make basic and advance calculations, and a lot more.
Love to geek out with the astronomy apps, so am looking forward to this one coming to the App Store. Looks like RS brings a lot of the features of both Star Walk and Solar Walk (reviewed here, and here on our blog) to iOS in one app, but has a ton of cool features as well. A day or so ago I wrote a post about AppShopper and how you can scoop up some great apps for discounts. Well I came across this one today and felt it was such a good deal I had to let people know about it. It has been selling for $39.99 in the iTunes store and is free for a limited time.

Though Apple designed the iPhone, iPod and iPad to be very user friendly and intuitive devices, they do take some adjusting to especially as they move further into roles computers have held - email, word processing, spread sheet, powerpoint, etc and are becoming more common in business, and educational functions.

As a dabbler of a few languages, I admit that I am not a natural learner. My English is not that good, and it's my native tongue! Anyhoo, I took Spanish in high school, but never could quite get the hang of the tricky rolling r sounds, the masculine and feminine forms, etc. With iStart Spanish on my iPod, I may finally be able to make some progress, and understand some of my wife's favorite TV shows.
