LogMeIn Ignition on sale for $20

image

Just a quick note that LogMeIn Ignition is on sale for $19.99 instead of $29.99.  I paid full price and it's been worth it for me and I know several of my colleagues here at iPhone Life use it too.  I use the free LogMeIn service on my macs and I can control them remotely from my iPad (or iPhone, though the smaller screen is less practical).  Now that a Bluetooth keyboard is supported by iOS, this makes the iPad even more practical.  Indeed, I've been able to leave the MacBook at home and travel with just an iPad and still be able to connect to my server, etc.

iBooks and Education

image

When Apple developed iBooks, the first thing that I thought of was how one app could revolutionize the education market. I imagined all the times I walked a mile across campus carrying 20 lbs. of books and thought what a miracle it could be to students around the world to be able to carry only an iPad.

Shoeboxed Business Card Reader -- free app uses camera to read business cards and add to contacts

image

I'm researching an article about the amazing range of ways apps use your iOS camera, from barcode readers and business card scanners to augmented reality and color detection for those who are color blind. This new app released today is yet another great freebie. Shoeboxed Business Card Reader lets you use your camera to take a photo of the card.

eFax app lets your iPhone become a fully functional fax machine

image

The free app can be used to send and receive faxes via your iPhone. To send faxes, though, you need to sign up for an eFax Plus account. You can receive faxes for free, plus they offer a 30-day free trial. The app uses your camera to capture an image to fax. If you're someone still needing to fax in this age of email, this might be a good solution.

Group Email with Attachments - Getting close to perfect!

With the Group Email with Attachments app, I can finally send emails to my groups AND include photos, videos, documents, current location information with map and address, audio clips, pasteboard content and contacts information.

I can send my email to a handpicked set of contacts, to a custom distribution list, or create a template for repeat messages (no more typing it over and over again!)

Review: Monster Job App

image

Recently I’ve begun a quest in finding a new job; however nowadays there are so many resources at our disposal that it can be quite daunting in sorting them all out.  One surprising resource is the iPhone app.  If you ever noticed in Apple’s App commercials there is an app for almost everything in their store or as they would say “There’s an app for that.”  Yet, despite the fact that like many iPhone users, I use apps for many things; I never thought of using an app to find a job until I was in need of one.  So far the best app in my experience has been Monster.com’s job search app for the iPhone.

Amazon scores with new app Windowshop but faces ire of Kindle fans

image

I’m a big fan of Amazon. Actually bought 1000% more ebooks from the Kindle store compared to the anaemic  shelves of the Ibook store. Price-wise, Amazon has consistently been cheaper than all the other major e-book retailers.

PDF Reader News & Updates

image

This is an update to my previous all-in-one PDF iPhone / iPad reader roundup published HERE.

I haven't elaborated on some subjects in the original article. Let's take a closer look at them.

1.) JPEG2000 images embedded in PDF files with aren't supported – they simply aren't shown.

To quickly fix this issue, before transferring the file to your iOS device, just open it in OS X's Preview and select File / Save As.
