If you're a fan of the comic characters Wallace and Gromit, you'll be interested to hear that there's now a new, free bimonthly magazine available for iOS devices. Although it's not an official publication of Aardman Animations, the Aardmag app has the company's official support. The magazine includes the latest news, articles, features, games, posters, reviews, and — exclusive comic strips.
TouchGen, a website devoted to gaming on iOS devices, has recently created a free magazine on the same topic. TouchGen Magazine is a "pilot issue" that collects 15 of their reviews over the past two years. Their forthcoming Issue 1 will have many of the features you'd expect from a newsstand gaming magazine, such as news, reviews, features, and commentary, but in an interactive format designed to make the most of the iPad reading experience. Their intention is for the magazine to continue to be free. If you're a gamer, you may want to check it out.
Haven't done this in awhile, so maybe I should call this "What I played this quarter!". I had to post up on JetCar Stunts though, since it's the latest game I can't stop playing (it's not a new title--released in 2009). Crazy addictive time killer is what it should be called!. Featured in iTunes essential games, you can grab it here at $1.99. Expansion course packs also available. The concept is to race through 3D high-flying aerial stunt courses with your rocket powered jet car (who wouldn't want one of those)... More app news follows...
Libraries are increasingly offering patrons the opportunity to check out ebook and audio versions of current books. And later this year that opportunity will expand with Amazon's new Kindle LIbrary Lending. Some 11,000 U.S. libraries, in partnership with OverDrive, a media distributor, will make ebooks available to local patrons. You'll be able to check out a book electronically and begin reading it immediately on Amazon's free Kindle app.
