I've never been a fan of earbuds as, to me, they didn't fully reproduce the musical experience. That may have changed with the RumbleBuds from Atomic9. These earbuds include a subwoofer right inside each earbud! Before I put them in my ears, I loaded a bass-heavy song (Daft Punk's Derezzed from the TRON: Legacy soundtrack) and watched as the earbuds literally started to move across the table! Talk about good vibrations, and no batteries required!
Going head-to-head with Apple is a dicey situation, but apparently AZiO thinks they've found a niche for their Bluetooth keyboard. Now that you can use BT keyboards with all iOS 4.x devices, you should consider adding one. AZiO says on their website that the virtual keyboard may be fine for travel, but when you're using your iOS device at work or home you may want a full keyboard. However, I could really use a portable keyboard when I travel. Perhaps it's because when I'm at home, I do most of my typing on a MacBook Pro with a full-size wired USB keyboard. But on the road, lately with just an iPad, an external keyboard would be great for typing articles and long emails.
I really wanted to finish this latest game before I wrote my review, but at this pace, it may be next Christmas before that happens. I pride myself in my movie trivia knowledge, something that can make me both interesting and annoying at parties. But "Say What You See" has been a challenge!
If you have tried the beautiful free (and somewhat promotional) app Epic Citadel, you have been waiting for this day. Infinity Blade ($5.99 Universal) is out and I'm downloading all 300+MB of it now. I'll post a full review soon, but you will want to check out the game that may prove to Nintendo, Sony, and others that the iOS platform is a gaming system to be reckoned with.
Ah the life of a reviewer. Two products arrived today, one in a plain brown paper wrapped box and the other in a cute, rainbow colored cylinder. Guess which one got opened first? PODSTA makes a cute product worthy of their packaging, and lighthearted web presence. They even sell t-shirts with their tagline (HOLD ME).
Wondering what to get that special someone? You know, the guy who has everything? Well, you can be pretty sure he doesn't have a JackBack because they just became available for pre-order! JackBacks are custom wood replacement backs for your iPhone 4, available in cherry, maple, walnut or mahogany. You can have your JackBack laser etched with a custom design for only $10 more than the $89 base price for a truly unique gift.
It's a rainy day here in Upstate New York so naturally thoughts turn to building an Ark. A funky design firm named ARKWHAT has done just that, for the iPhone 4. Think Motorola Startac if made by Nerf! This chunky but colorful case actually serves several purposes. You won't lose your iPhone. If you drop it, you probably will be okay. There's even a drop test video on YouTube! And while I wouldn't recommend trying it, it just might float. But it's not waterproof so don't rely on that.
The real "trick" that JK Rowling was able to perform was to print money. The books, movies, merchandise, and theme park have all taken a good chunk of my income. But I am okay with that. At least I'm supporting a literary endeavor as my oldest daughter reads as fast as Ms. Rowling can write them, if not faster.
There's a new case company in town, and they go by the name modulR. They way they spell and capitalize their name isn't the only thing they're doing that's innovative. The modulR case is really a system or platform which you customize to suit your needs. The first thing you do is pop it into a silicon protective shell, similar to other cases. But the back of the modulR case has four 'nubs' or buttons. You can attach an assortment of accessories using those buttons to turn your case into a desktop stand, a wall mount, or even a shoulder strap case.
UPDATE: With the passing of Steve Jobs, I wanted to update this posting. Without Steve Jobs, I guarantee my career and life would have taken a different path and I am far better off for his being in the world, albeit for just 56 years.
A reader reminded me that my 100th blog posting was coming up, so rather than just write about another app or accessory, I thought I'd take a moment to reflect upon how I got here and the role Apple and Steve Jobs played in my life. As Yogi Berra said, when you see a fork in the road, TAKE IT! There are many twists and turns that led each of us to the path we are on today so indulge me as I reflect on my path.
