App-A-Day Project: Tumblecaps

image

Another day, another application that's actually better than the last.  This time around I'll be looking at Tumblecaps, a somewhat original take on the whole match 3 genre.  I must confess that I probably have a bit of a soft spot for this game simply because I love match 3 games, but I think if you were to play all of the games up to this point you would agree that this is the most solid entry (Pegburner is a close second, but all the problems I had with unresponsive controls sets it back a bit from this one).

Phaze Racing Review

image

Another cool racer, Phaze, recently made available in the App Store (developer Pazzazz), and now reviewed--has all the finely-honed graphics, speed and excitement of a pod-racer and then some.

How to Speed Up Your iPhone Syncs

image

iPhone syncs were never known to be speedy, but mine were getting ridiculous. I found that they were taking 3 to 4 hours to complete. I dreaded having to sync my iPhone whenever I wanted to add new media or just to update my information. I would start my syncs before going to bed so that they would finish sometime during the night and I wouldn’t be without my phone. I noticed that the backup that iTunes performs before each sync was taking forever to complete.

App-A-Day Project: Pegburner

image

If you read my first two posts in this series, you might be wondering why I'm continuing to review these games.  Besides the fact that the developer was kind enough to provide me with the first five games for these reviews, it turns out they're actually getting better.  The next game in the series is Pegburner, and it's a simple "click the numbers in order" game.  I was actually a bit relieved, because given then name I thought it was going to be another one of those peg jumping games.

Some rebates you definitely should check out:

In addition to Galcon (a very nice title), the following (better) titles are offered 80% off in the next 1-2 days:

Firemint Real Racing

I'm gearing up, pun intended, for a full review of this awesome-looking racer from Firemint (once I finish my review of Astraware's Phaze), but wanted to get the word out on the street (last pun, I promise), even though it's been around awhile. In fact, I've been doing so much iPod racing lately, I might feature a round-up when I get some time. This one looks (from the video), like a pretty intense ride! Read on for more details...

Great sale: Galcon $1 only!

Many of you may have heard of the great strategy game Galcon.

Now, it only costs $1 in the AppStore. It's a steal for that price, particularly when you take into account the great multiplayer capabilities.

Want to make VoIP calls (Skype, Fring, Nimbuzz etc.) or watch TV (Sling, netTV) over 2G / 3G too?

Then, you’ll want to read bullet 5 (Voice calls over 2G/3G) of my (last) post HERE, in the “UPDATE (Jul/10/2009)” section.

Bebot - Robot Synth

You may be familiar with the name Jordan Rudess, a well known master keyboard player and electronic musician. He’s been posting some great video demonstrations on YouTube including a relatively new iPhone/iPod Touch app call Bebot-Robot Synth ($1.99) that is an incredibly expressive synthesizer and performance controller. It’s difficult to describe in words so check it out at www.youtube.com/watch.
