One of the coolest things I saw at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this year was the Rift, virtual reality goggles from developers Oculus. Oculus takes the science of vision and applies it to virtual reality gaming in an arena that will be intimately familiar to any fan of iOS gaming.
The award-winning app, 1Password has recently been updated and rewritten from the ground up, and is now a stellar universal app, running beautifully across all Apple devices. In the wake of last week’s massive breach of Twitter security, where more than a quarter of a million users' accounts were hacked, now may be the perfect time to invest in your online security. This app takes the headache out of keeping track of all of your passwords.
I am notoriously hard on my iDevices. I carry them with me everywhere, which includes some rough terrain and adventurous situations. I have been consistently impressed with the performance and handling of Case-Mate Tough Xtreme
cases, and specifically, the Case-Mate Tough Xtreme
for the ultra-portable iPad mini.
Welcome to my roundup of some of the best new (and updated) iOS games! This week we'll take a look at the uniquely genre-defying greatness that is Heroes and Castles, the adrenaline-fueled racing madness of 2XL MX Offroad and the refreshing word puzzlement of Letter by Letter.
It's not surprising really, when you think about it; the fact that in the past few years, right along with the explosion in popularity of the iPhone, we have seen a corresponding boom in the popularity of hardy gear designed to keep your mobile device safe in all circumstances, extreme or mundane, and look good while doing so too. It has a lot to do with what the Apple brand represents, and with the demographic Apple targets.
I spent 6 years living on a sailboat in the Caribbean, and during my time on the yacht, I developed a great appreciation for the Sun’s ability to keep my batteries powered up for free, wherever I happened to drop anchor. Since my sailing days I find I'm always on the lookout for efficient ways to harness this abundant source of electrical power for personal use, especially as one who spends a great deal of my time outdoors, with my iDevices. So you can imagine how thrilled I was to learn about the SunVolt, by Gomadic.
It seems that I am not alone in my interest in an even larger iPhone or, an even smaller iPad. A recent survey conducted by Change Wave reveals, among other things, that 52% of us would opt for an iPhone with a larger screen if given a chance. In fact, of those surveyed, a solid 27% would buy a smartphone over 5-inches if they could. Reliable rumors are already circulating of protoypes of a larger iPhone in the not too distant future.
Apple’s share price plummeted this morning, dropping by $16.23 to $505.00 after reports
from the Wall Street Journal that Apple had cut parts orders (screens and other miscellaneous components) by as much as half as a result of a lower than expected demand for the iPhone 5.
I just got back from the amazing and spectacular event that was 2013’s Consumer Electronics Show. I had a blast, it was a great time with great people. Nonetheless, I'm a country boy at heart, and it's nice to be back in the rugged wilderness (relatively speaking) that is Sedona Arizona.
If you follow my iPhone Life magazine articles and blog postings then you already know a bit about me. I'm an enthusiast of all things outdoorsy, rugged and environmentally friendly. That said, there was certainly no shortage of amazing new iOS gadgets and gear that could make valid claims of meeting the rigorous IP
military-grade standards, that were being presented at this years CES. Read on for a sampling of some of my favorites in the category of heavy-duty, rugged and durable accessories. Trust me when I say, we have a lot to look forward to, in this category, this year.
