Apple unveiled the newest member of the iPhone family today at its headquarters in Cupertino, California: the iPhone 4S.
Expectation was building to massive proportions before the event, with many expecting Apple to unveil an "iPhone 5."
Apple instead unveiled a very impressive series of features built into their new iPhone 4S, and it'll be available starting October 14th, with pre-ordering starting Oct 7th. Here are the main features:

How did this happen?
A few of us at iPhone Life were trying to come up with a fun and easy way to show our respect and appreciation to Steve Jobs, a man who's vision, inspiration and dedication have touched so many people's lives, and whose retirement from the role of Apple CEO marks the end of an era.
Steve Jobs stepped down as Apple's CEO today, and "strongly recommended" to the Apple Board of Directors that Tim become the new CEO.
"“I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know,” starts his letter. "Unfortunately, that day has come.”

According to a study from the electronics shopping site, Retrevo.com, 34% of iPhone users thought they already owned a 4G smartphone. 4G phones are still not available, but they are coming, so the confusion may mean that 4G adoption will happen more slowly than planned. After all, why would you get a 4G phone when you think you already own one?
Users who like to jailbreak their devices might find some difficulty with iOS 5. According to a report by Mashable, the iPhone Dev Team was looking through the code for iOS 5 beta 2, and it discovered that Apple is putting measures that will make it harder for users to revert to earlier versions of iOS.
