City story - care

I downloaded city story on my iphone yesterday naively thinking that it would be a good game for my son (9) .
Woke this morning to find that I was $440 poorer after he pressed the upgrade button 3 times , not realising that it was real money he was dealing with .
I am not excusing my ignorance for not reading the fine print but would like to warn others out there that this can be a VERY expensive exercise.

Apology

Katherine, I re-directed your comment to my review, but will respond here. I did point out in my review that City Story also uses real money to advance. I probably should have been more clear about the danger in my teaser section, but yes, it is important to know the nature of all apps your kids might be downloading or playing. Games that have an on-line component can drive up your data usage, and also as you found out the hard way, the danger that in-game currency will result in real world charges. Especially in my conclusion section, I pointed this out:

"Instead they made the game free to download and play at a basic level...banking on users likely needing or wanting to spend real money through iTunes later  to reach higher levels faster. Not sure how I feel about that model. Some users will undoubtedly love these features, while others may be perturbed to find that the game is coaxing them to pay real money to play."
