Nuu Splash Bluetooth Speaker with Microphone

I have to admit that I didn't know what an IP55 rating was. But now I know that it means a speaker is resistant to both dust and water. Live and learn and that what Nuu Splash portable, waterproof, wireless speaker can boast.

The first thing that impressed me about this speaker is its innate feeling of quality. It's no lightweight, cheap plastic job.

Here are the specs:

  •  Bluetooth: Version 2.0

  • Bluetooth Range: 10m

  • Water & Dust Resistance Rating: IP55

  • Battery Life: Up to 7 hours playback time (varies by volume level and audio content)

  • Audio Output Power: 2 x 3W

  • Speaker Driver: 2 x 40mm 4 ohm

  • AC Adaptor: 5V/2.6A with Micro USB plug

  • Supports Bluetooth A2DP audio profile, Bluetooth Hands free profile (HFP) and Headset Profile (HSP)

  • Size (W x H x D): 155 x 62 x 52mm

In the literature it says there's a battery life of 10 hours; in the specs above it says 7 hours. Either is respectable I suppose, but I haven't really tested it. It has a standby time of up to 240 hours. For charging, an AC adapter and USB cable are supplied.

In the box, you also get a nice carrying bag, a manual, and a dual male 3.5 mm cable to hook up to other devices without Bluetooth.

I found that it connected easily to my Galaxy S3 and iPod Touch. Sometimes this can be an annoying issue, but not with the Nuu Splash.

I haven't tested it in my hot tub yet, and I probably won't at the moment because my hot tub cover has a foot of snow on it.

The small footprint of this speaker system doesn't mean that the sound quality is compromised. I marvel at the richness and depth of tone that radiates from this attractive, little sound blaster. Two 40 mm4 ohm speaker drivers combined with a passive base radiator deliver crisp, clear, balanced quality sound.

The sturdy but light weight aluminum casing is durable and attractive. It comes five colors: black, pink, silver, blue, and green to match your mood or decor. It's small enough so that you can throw it in a bad and take it traveling with you. But it also makes a nice accent and give appreciated functionality to any space in your home or office. I intend to use mine while working or entertaining in my garden.

Now here's another surprise. It comes with a built in microphone, so you can use it as a remote, hands free device with your phone. It's great for conference calls at the office, driving in the car, and out in the garden.

I couldn't help wondering how much a quality unit this like this might cost. I was guessing it would be around $99. You'll be glad to know that I was off by twenty bucks. The manufacturer's retail price is $79. www.gonuu.com.
