Have you ever envied people who sit in the coffee shop with their thumbs blazing as they text away on their mobile devices? As an iPhone/iPad person, you have been out of luck if you want this form factor--until now.
Let me introduce you to the nifty, new NUU Mini keyboard. It is really meant for the iPhone, but I slipped my iPod touch 4 into it, and it works just fine. It has a little slop room, but you can shim it up if it really bothers you.
All you have to do is connect your device to the keyboard via Bluetooth, which is quick and strait forward. First make sure it is charged or connected to a mini USB cable energy source. Turn on the switch. Make sure you Apple device is on and discoverable. Push the button in the upper right corner of the keyboard. A note will flash on the screen with a code to type. Once entered, you are connected, and you may begin typing.
The horizontal slideout keyboard is a fully featured QWERTY layout. The symbols and numerals are accessible with the use of the function key. It even has a command and tab button. There are a plethora of shortcuts made possible by combinations of function and command keys. There is a toggle key that allows you to switch between the physical keyboard on screen keyboard.
What I really appreciate are the arrow keys for navigation in a document Slide the power switch all the way left, and the keys are backlit. Put the switch in the middle to save battery life.
The chicklet type keys are distinctly separated making it easier to type without errors. There is even a hole in the back of the case for the camera lens to work. There is also a hole for connecting a lanyard if you wish.
To accommodate the keyboard, the case adds more thickness to an iPhone and even slimmer iPod. But it's a small price to pay for the added functionality.
Designed to save energy, the Bluetooth connection shuts down after a period of inactivity. But just start typing again, the it instantly reconnects.
With this handy new device, you should be able to increase your typing speed, accuracy, and productivity. Now you have no excuse not to get started on the great American novel. You can even type it in the dark.
I suppose you can't have everything, but I wish the device holder would tip up for better viewing during serious typing sessions. Just for fun, I took my iPod out of the case and set it up in a business card holder to give it a slant. I had to put a spacer under the holder for support and to keep it level. This is probably more trouble than it's worth though.
I am delighted with this productivity piece and recommend it highly. One can be yours for $79.99 from Amazon. You may visit the manufacturer's Website at http://www.nuubrand.com.
Thanks to Nuu for a great product.
