In this day and age of being on the go and needing ultimate portability for your documents, files, etc., is crucial. Your data in hand is clutch on so many levels.
DataViz has long been a leader in file portability, and i have used it since it was first installed on a Y2K era Palm Pilot.
Documents to Go has been their flagship product for years, and for good reason. Documents To Go, allows you to bring your word docs, excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations and even pdf files with you on most portable platforms including;
- Palm OS
- WebOS (Palm Pre)
- BlackBerry
- Android
- iPhone
- Windows Mobile Standard
- Windows Mobile Professional
- Symbian UIQ
- Symbian Series 80
- Maemo
That being said, we recently got hold of the iPhone app and it did not disappoint. With one simple click, the app was purchased, downloaded and installed on the iPod Touch. Then, , you can download the companion desktop application which provides file synchronization and file transfer between your Mac or PC and your iPhone/iPod touch.
The both installs, on the iPod and the PC were flawless. The iPod Touch is a 3rd generation running OS 4.2.1. The PC that it is being synced with is running Windows 7. The fact that it ran flawless on both just goes to show that DataViz is committed to the newest and the best out there.
So, what can Documents to Go do for you ? Plenty.
Once you install the companion desktop application, you can select one, two or all documents, excel files, PowerPoint files, etc that you want. It is automatically synchronized over the WiFi network and will also automatically connect to the PC that holds the desktop application. The automatic connection and synchronization was a great surprise and a welcome feature.
Synchronization was swift and hasn't failed at any time. Now, all the important documents are constantly close at hand, whether on the go or on the road, they are readable, and editable, just as if they were on a desktop pc or laptop.. Then once you edit or even create new on your iPod touch or iPhone, they will automatically sync and update on the pc.
Aside for portability, it is also a great piece of mind for you as a user. If there should ever be a data loss on the PC side, you will have a copy on your device.
Documents To Go is $9.99 and the Premium Version is $14.99 and are both available at the App Store which can be directly accessed from you iPhone or iPod Touch (connected to WiFi) The Premium version allows for editing PowerPoint files as well as Google docs synchronization. You can edit Word and Excel files in either version.
This is one of the few "MUST BUY's" for your device. It is the best you can get for the platforms concerned.
