The “Just Mobile AluPen™ is a chunky pencil-shaped stylus” that you can use on your iPhone, iPod Touch or your iPad. In my review, I was using it with the iPad, as I do occasionally write notes and jot down ideas. The stylus is made from Aluminum with the tip being made of soft rubber.
I compared this to my Pogo Sketch, which I admit I do not like. I bought it at the local Apple Store in the spring and basically put it in my drawer shortly after. I did not like the spongy tip, and wanted something with more of a defined tip and better feel. The AluPen delivers on this. While it’s not a sharp point like a plastic stylus or pencil, it’s more rounded and more defined than the Pogo Sketch. I think it does feel like there is more of a tip when you are using it.
Both of these styluses are the same length. Notably though, the AluPen is more chunky. I used Adobe Ideas and iBrainstorm in my test. I’ll be honest that I did not see a noticeable difference in the words or the objects that I wrote and drew that showed up on the screen. The iPad displayed them pretty close to being the same. But what I can say is that I liked using the AluPen more as it did feel like there was a tip and that it had more of a defined end. It was also more comfortable to use as the “chunky” style fit better in my hand.
As in the Pogo, it does not have a built in clip or hole for a lanyard. It also costs $10.00 more than the Pogo. But ultimately, you’re not buying a product like this for how it is stored or carried, but more for how it’s used and how it’s feels. So if you are in the market for this type of product, check it out and do your research and comparisons of what you want it to do for your needs.
