Feedback Wanted: iOS4 and iPod Touch

So I have been checking the various online forums to see what peoples experiences have been so far installing the new iOS4 update, specifically as it relates to the iPod Touch. I have a 2nd generation unit so I know my version will be stripped down. I am okay with that at the moment because I am happy this older device is still getting some support. I have seen more os updates to my touch in less than a year that I had with my windows mobile device in 6 years. I will not have access to my desktop until the weekend, so that's the earliest I can do the update. I have seen a bunch of people complaining about the OS update making their device more slow and causing problems with iTunes, and some wanting to downgrade back. But I have not seen posts from users who had no issues with installation and are happy with the update. So with that said, I would love to get your feedback below or on our Facebook page.

iPod touch

I have a 64G touch. Took nearly 2 hours to update. It was important not to just click-through the installation message screens, and read each one, as everything had to be done in exactly the correct order, otherwise you lost data, downloads, contacts etc.

There was no online instruction about updating the Touch (only the iPhone, which was slightly different, I think). Also no new manual or guide for the new OS.

So far I'm loving it though - folders and pseudo multi-tasking work great and are time savers.

Unfortunately I think a lot of people just rushed in as soon as the update was released, and didn't first back up - BIG problem!

iPOD Touch 3G 8G

Yes, I made the iOS4.0 upgrade: unified mail boxes (OK !) and Folders (OK !).

No multitasking, no wallpapers.

I'm waiting to jailbreak (again).

iTouch 3rd Gen 32g Took about

iTouch 3rd Gen 32g
Took about and hour to hour and a half.
Couple things so far...lost my calender and contacts, but I sync with my google account and as soon as I opened the apps they synched back up

New version of BING just sits on the logo screen and does nothing.
SYFY news feed crashes as does their DEVICE news.

So far that's all I've found bad. Folders work, background works, speed actually seems better and WiFi range seems to hold better.

No problems with iTunes or anything else so far.

iOS4 and iPhone 3G

After upgrading my 3G to iOS4 some songs will not play in the iPod app (about 40% of them). In a playlist, the cover art will display for a second or two and then the next "good" song in the list will start playing. I cannot figure out a pattern as to why some will play and some will not, except it definitely seems that there's a problem with songs downloaded from Amazon.com. Everything else (photos, contacts, MMS messaging, calendars, email messages, even ringtones) seems to work fine.

iSO4 and ipod 3G touch

I bought 3 ipod touch 3G’s last week for myself and 2 of my sons.. Updated the first one last night to iOS4 and it is now stuck in recovery mode and not recognised by my PC. Called Apple, who blamed me for using a PC and not a MAC,spoke to several “techies” who finally gave up and said I could exchange the unit at a local service centre only to be told that they only have ipod 2G’s in stock and would I like one of those instead! They are sending a box (coffin?) for my iPod and say they will return it fixed or a new one in 5 working days!!!! Right now I wish I had bought an Arcos.

iOS4 update on iPhone 3G

My biggest complaint to register is the mail. I use gmail through mail program and now the trash icon sends mail into archives. I really don't want to archive all my junk mail. Also the old swipe and delete now also archives. The only way to delete mail is to edit and move to trash. It takes a lot more time to do this.

The other thing I hate is in iTunes. The "On The Go" feature has now been changed to playlist and you can name the playlist but Apple is still missing the main feature to help create a playlist. They need to add that alphabet key vertically down the right side of the screen - the same way they have it for the songs, artists, etc in regular iPod. Otherwise, if you have many songs, artists, genres, etc.. you have to manually scroll through them all to pick a song. Very tedious. Ahh. Do you know if there is an official Apple site to give feedback? Thanks.

archive trash

If you go into your gmail account in the mail settings on your phone or touch, you can deactivate the new archive feature.

I have the same problem, but

I have the same problem, but it seems like all the songs added after a certain date wont play. Whats strange is not being able to do "high speed scrubbing" on most of my "Adam Carolla Show" podcasts!

Of the 12 I have, 6 WON'T play, it just skips them. Some are a month old, one is 4 months old and 2 of the 4 new ones I downloaded last night don't work. Kinda hard to explain that, especially since the one that is 4 months old works and I can use the scrubbing feature...
