Tests show iPhone 3GS even faster than Apple says

Real-world tests are being done on the claims of speed in the new iPhone — and it's passing these tests with flying colors. In addition, as this article on Medialets shows, even the previous 3G iPhone shows dramatic improvement with the new iPhone 3.0 software. The tests look at how fast various versions of the iPhone, other phones, and a MacBrook execute JavaScript code.TechCrunch observes that the 3GS executes JavaScript at speeds approaching that of a MacBook.
