I want a case for one purpose: toting my iPad wherever I go. And I want that case to be over my shoulder and out of the way. My first solution was the Kensington Sling Bag, which I posted about in early May. It served my needs well, but I wore it out in a few months of heavy use: frayed and coming apart at the seams. Fortunately, just as it was fading, STM sent me their Jacket iPad. And it's just what I was hoping to find.
The Sling Bag was like a messenger bag that neatly rested on my back. The Jacket iPad has a more conventional shoulder strap. What I like most about it, though, is that it's svelte and form-fitting. The Sling Bag was big enough that I could put other stuff in it. The Jacket neatly accommodates an iPad, iPhone, and headset or cables. And nothing more.
It's conveniently light. And I'm hoping that it'll be more durable. I liked the canvas of the Sling Bag, but there was a lot of friction as I jogged around with it on my back, and the canvas frayed. The smoother nylon should last longer.
The Jacket has a padded main compartment that zippers shut and holds your iPad. On the front there's a pocket just the size of an iPhone. There's no fastener, but it's engineered to keep your iPhone inside. And that pocket sits atop a larger zippered pocket, which can accommodate your earbuds. Plus, there's an open pocket in the back.
I've been using it for a few days now, and like it a lot.
