The App Store has started a countdown to the 1 billionth app download, with the figure at about 930 million as I write this and racing upward fast. From now until the 1 billionth download, Apple is offering a contest with lots of prizes. To enter, you simply download an app. Or you can enter without downloading. You can enter up to 25 times a day to increase your odds of winning. Prizes include a $10,000 gift card, a MacBook Pro, and much more. Plus, the App Store has a list of the all-time top 20 paid apps and free apps. The paid apps are mostly games and entertainment. Facebook, Google Earth, and Pandora Music are the top free apps. It's fun to watch the counter speed by on the billionth app page — with about 100 apps being downloaded every second.
