Apple is now world's largest smartphone maker

Apple was widely scorned when they first brought out their iPhone, and critics said they'd never have much of an effect on the market. Now, four years later, they are the world's largest smartphone maker, according to an article posted today on AppleInsider. Based on figures for the second quarter, they sold 20.3 million phones compared to second place Samsung's 19.2 million. Nokia, long the leader, dropped back to third place. But what's really astonishing is that Apple 142% growth rate for the quarter was 12 times faster than the global phone market overall. You can read more in this related article on AppleInsider.
