An interesting article in Business Week says that Apple is developing tools for developers that would let you share your app with friends. They'd have to pay for it, of course. But instead of going to the App Store, your friends may be able to use Bluetooth and the new peer-to-peer function of iPhone 3.0 to get it directly from you. And you'd get a commission. It's a great idea. Why not broaden the ways people can get apps, while still retaining control? Note that the article says that Apple is considering this, but is mum on whether it will be made available.
