Pulse was founded in May 2010 by Ankit Gupta and Akshay Kothari, two Stanford graduate students as part of a course at the Institute of Design. The inspiration for Pulse was borne out of their frustration with the news reading experience on mobile devices. Pulse has been selected as one of 50 apps in Apple’s App Store Hall of Fame and named one of TIME’s top 50 iPhone apps of 2011.
The Pulse News app is a nicely designed news reading application for iPhone, iPad and (ahem) Android devices. The design structure has Tabs and each Tab has up to 12 horizontal bars that can be panned from left to right.
It is really easy to add sources to a tab and customize your whole reading experience by adding what they call a “place” then browsing the catalog or choosing a “pack” such as politics, fun, food etc.
Take the time to really set it up. You can probably find all the sources you go to already, line then up on the Tabs and read through everything inside one interface. Do you use it? Have you found us under Technology? Let us know what you think.
