How the iPhone changed motherhood.

I have four kids. The changes in technology since the first one was born - 19 years ago - to when the last one was born - 6 years ago - is astounding. The technology of the iphone completely blows my mind.

When my first son was born, there was no such thing as a cell phone for the average person, or computers. Now I have both... in my back pocket! I have the ability to contact anyone in the world - right now - and I'm sitting in a chair, watching my son's soccer practice.

From my comfy chair, in the middle of a green grass field, with a warm breeze blowing gently through my hair.....I can check my calendar for the soccer schedule, check the weather forecast for Saturday's game, email the team a friendly reminder to not be late, email my husband the grocery list, text my teenager to take out the garbage, watch a movie or listen to my favorite music playlist and log on with Safari to check my son's grades.

All of those things I can do without an app... just with the plain old iphone. What you can do with the apps is immeasurable. New apps and updated apps appear daily. My goal is to find the best ways to make parenthood easier with the iPhone and bring those bits of genius here.

Next entry will be about ....Grocery shopping made easier with the iPhone.

Tracy Sebastian's picture

I'm the wife of a scattered businessman and the mother of 4. The oldest is out in the "Real World", the second is in college, the third and fourth are in elementary school.

I'm trying to make the lives of mothers better by sharing my mistakes - so they can learn from my mistakes, they don't have to make their own. I love to travel and take pictures. I try to incorporate both into my life every day.

My motto - "Don't Panic - It could be worse."

Right on the money

I agree Tracy, the iPhone is an emerging tool for parents and children, take a look at what my son is doing with his iPhone.  I think there is much yet to understand about how the iPhone is changing our lives and particularly our parenting, while there are no guarantee's that the iPhone is helping, I do notice it has the potential not to speed up but to slow down and simplify - which I feel adds to a quality of life.

Nice post!
