With Microsoft's recent announcement of POP access to its popular Hotmail email service, iPhone users can finally begin getting their email with the built in client software.
Setting up your Hotmail account is simple on the iPhone since it retrieves all of the correct settings automatically so your email will be up and running in mere minutes.
To Start, go to your Settings icon, select Mail, Contacts, Calendars and select the Add Account option. Choose the Other option under at the bottom of the screen and enter your basic Hotmail account information such as your name, Hotmail address, password and a brief description then press the Save button. The iPhone will automatically setup the rest of the settings within a minute and you'll be ready to go.
For those of you that may have trouble with auto setup or just like to do things manually, the correct POP settings are as follows:
POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example email@example.com
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com (Port 25 or 587)
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes
