Now you can volunteer without ever leaving your chair by simply turning on your iPhone! An organzation called The Extraordinaries is encouraging a new kind of social networking, Microvolunteering, to do good. (NPR's article on Microvolunteering) The premise is that you can volunteer your time anytime, anywhere, for just a few minutes as you available. (no more excuses!)
The iPhone app from The Extraordinaries is free to download. The volunteer opportunities when I searched were primarily tagging photos from different museums and libraries from around the world, although the app description mentions opportunities in science, medicine, and government as well. The concept is still in its beta stage, so expect to see the list expand down the road. This definitely takes volunteering to a whole new level.
