The Wall Street Journal has reported that Apple has ordered as many as 10 million units of the as-yet-unconfirmed, iPad mini. This information comes on the heels of CNN's Fortune reporting to us that invitations to the iPad mini's media event will be sent out on October 10th, heralding an October 17th product unveiling, with the iPad mini becomming available by early November.
The iPad mini will line up directly in the path of sales of Google's, Amazon's and Samsung's mini tablets, and the iPad mini is forcasted to do extremely well in that market, despite being a relative late-comer to the mini tablet niche. Remember, intitially, it was reported that Steve Jobs would never let a mini iPad see the light of day, though as Rene Richie over at iMore relates, that might not be an accurate portrayal of the situation. Either way, Apple has come a long way and is taking a signifigant evolutionary step.
