10:01 AM: My iPad mini arrived this morning, Thursday November 15th, finally! Right on time! Actually, I think I got mine a little earlier than some folks, maybe because I was up early that October morning, likely one of the first to place their order online at the Apple Store.
I've been curious as to what it would feel like, seeing the package arrive, unboxing my diminutive new tablet which I already feel I know so much about. I mean, it's not like I don't already have both an iPhone and an iPad 2. Would it still be as big a deal, would this new iDevice WOW me even more than what I'm used to, more than I might expect?
Well, let’s find out now why don't we? After all, how often is it that I get to live-blog at the opening and unveiling of my very own iPad mini??? The tension and suspense have built long enough, I already feel like I've been waiting for years, literally YEARS, for this product to materialize in my hands and in front of my eyes. Honestly, this is at least as exciting as the big event Apple held in California not long ago where they first introduced the iPad mini to the world at large.
So without further adieu, let's begin! Live, from Northern Arizona, on this cool, crisp morning... the unboxing of my own iPad mini!
10:13 AM: Click! Got my knife folded out, my camera ready. Oh boy! It's like Christmas came early!
10:15 AM: The shipping package removed reveals the silky smooth, matte finished iPad box we have all come to love. Looks just like the iPad 3 box, just way smaller, like something out of Alice in Wonderland.
10:17 AM: After carefully opening the iPad mini’s box, my new iDevice sits staring back at me blankly, for the time being. It's under wraps now in the clear plastic wrapper, but that’s about to change. I’ve got my new Otterbox iPad mini case
by my side ready to slip the mini into. Here goes, no scratches now...
iPad mini, safely esconsced in it's Otterbox case!
10:19 AM: Hard to believe, but it’s true. I am now holding the new iPad mini with cellular and Wi-Fi in my own two hands. Let’s plug her in and get her synced and ready to go.
11:30 AM: Synced and ready to go, my new iPad mini is fantastic! What to do first?!? Play a game of Dead Trigger
or Infinity Blade II
? Or maybe check my emails? Hmmm... I know! I’m going to open up my iA Writer
app and finish this live unboxing blog on the mini!
About time to activate cellular service!
11:35 AM: So here I am, joyfully typing away on the best iDevice I think I've ever had so far! She works like a dream. Typing feels so perfectly suited to my had size and I am tapping away with great speed and efficiency! I love it! And I’ve heard all sorts of gripes and grumbling about the screen resolution, but I have to say, I can't complain. To my eyes, and for the value (Retina being so much more expensive to produce and therefore sell) the iPad mini is not only the best and most affordable iPad, but also the best tablet on the market! In fact, the only thing I'm not thriled with so far is the delicat new Lightning connector. I was hard enough on the old format, bigger, sturdier dock connector. Why not go magnetic, instead of a fragile tongue that looks like it word snap if the breeze blew hard.
11:45 AM: Here goes, I’ve got a lot of work to do! Games to review, blogs to write, iPad mini performance to evaluate and report back to you on... Stay tuned friends, I’ll get back to you soon with more reports and updates on my time spent with the amazing new iPad mini...
11:50 AM: Over and out. Thank you as always for reading!
