iLiveMath Entomology offers your students a chance to practice math word problems while learning about insects and spiders.
Students can choose to play one of three levels:
Level 1: addition and subtraction
Level 2: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division
Level 3: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and geometry
Problems are generated new each time. The developer estimates there are more than 1 million possible combinations, so your students should not get duplicates.
As a “reward,” students can view more than 40 YouTube videos related to the topic. Links to Wikipedia are also included so your students can learn more about entomology and insects.
This app provides students with a unique way to practice their math skills and learn about entomology at the same time. The images were excellent and the math problems were challenging.
I especially liked the idea of the videos as a reward, but I have to admit I got bored after a while. There were too many similar videos – mostly showing bees or metamorphosis of butterflies. I also found that I was skipping problems to look at the videos, but I later discovered that the developer provided a solution for that. You can set the app to only show videos after 1, 5, 10, 15, or 20 correct answers.
