When Sheep meet wolves, it typically means all out war...I mean WAR!! Let's face it, the two just do not get along. This is mainly based upon the fact that wolves like to y'know...eat sheep. And the sheep, they don't so much like to be eaten. That is where we pick up the action in Saving Private Sheep, a highly original game on the iPad.
So, here, we have a pack of hungry wolves. You know the kind. Napkins tied around their necks, knives and forks at the ready. The sheep, however, are not just going to lay down and prepare to be eaten. They are fighting back with steroid pumped, super soldier sheep. Your job is to get the sheep safely to dry land, where they can begin their assault on the wolves.
The sheep will appear on the screen atop a peak, wolves surround it (just off the bottom of the screen). At first, boxes and planks of wood will block your sheep from establishing himself on land atop the peak. Just tap them to eliminate the boxes or planks. Later, you will find unbreakable pieces of steel, ice (which is slippery and takes multiple taps to break), and explosives which send everything flying through the air.
At the end of each level, you will earn a medal based upon the number of taps you used and the amount of time elapsed. Each level utilizes a different formula, so the real key is to move as quickly and with the fewest number of taps possible.
Of course, if you are not careful, then your sheep will go rolling off the edge of the cliff, making a delicious meal for those wolves.
There are numerous maps here, each with 16 levels to defeat, giving you a total of well over 100 levels. Sure, at the beginning it seems like a pretty easy task, but don't get too cocky out there.
Somewhere around number 50 (or exactly number 50), you will end up on a level that looks like this...all explosives and flying through the air. And that is not even the most complicated level around.
On top of all that, Saving Private Sheep features a connection to the Open Feint network. This gives you access to online leaderboards and more achievements that you can shake a stick at (although I can shake a stick pretty well).
I had a great time with this game. The graphics are cartoonish and fun, and gameplay is fantastic. At its core, this is really a puzzle game, but it is a puzzle game wrapped in a fantastic package. Additionally, with over 100 levels, the game is able to increase the challenge gradually, leading you slowly away from the comfortable easy levels and into the deeper waters of the game, with multiple sheep and plenty of obstacles. Before you know what happened, you will be cursing the game trying to figure out the path to complete that next level. The end result is what every game should strive to accomplish: it is just a lot of fun, and provides hours of challenging gameplay.
Saving Private Sheep is available from Bulkypix at the iTunes App store for $3.99.
