Revenge of the Case Companies

I recently wrote about the dilemma facing third party case companies (http://www.iphonelife.com/blog/2458/making-case-case-companies) now that Apple is giving away Bumpers and presumably an Apple-approved selection of third party cases since they can't meet the demand using Bumpers alone.

Now at least two case vendors are trying to get out in front of the parade.  Proporta and Incipio are offering trade-in deals for discounts toward their own line of cases.  Proporta is offering a 20% discount while Incipio is giving users $5 credit.  You still have to mail the Bumper in and wait for a rebate (Incipio) or use a discount code with Proporta then send in the Bumper for a credit.  I'm not sure I'd want to give up a Bumper case for just five dollars, minus postage, but I applaud their efforts.  I'm more inclined to keep the Bumper as a spare, for slipping in a suit coat pocket, and buy a heavier duty case for day-to-day usage.  We will have to see what Apple's third party offerings are.

For Incipio, check out http://www.myincipio.com/bumper-trade-in-program and for Proporta, use promo code CASEFREE when ordering from http://www.proporta.com.
