I was recently spelunking... yes that's a word, even though my wife thought I made it up. We were exploring an underground cave called Howe Caverns, in Upstate New York. The caverns are 200 feet underground and lit artificially, but there are still areas of darkness. Thankfully, I had my iPhone enclosed in a glow-in-the-dark case from MoonSkins! Any case can protect your iPhone, but the MoonSkins offer added value by glowing in the dark. Now you might not be spelunking every day, but wouldn't it be nice to be able to find your phone on the nightstand, without having to turn on the lights?
MoonSkins are sold in a variety of colors and cost $30. Make sure you get the AT&T or Verizon version as the buttons are in a slightly different spot for those two versions of the iPhone 4.
Another gadget that can light up your night is the Visible Green Charger from Dexim. This is a USB cable for charging or syncing your iPhone, iPod, or iPad. But there's a twist. The cable uses low power consumption electroluminescence (EL) technology. While the device is charging, the cable pulses to show you it's charging. My daughter got to take this cable to camp, where it can serve as a nightlight (at least for as long as the charging is required) not to mention a conversation piece! No, they don't allow iPhones but she brought an iPod nano with music.
The Dexim Visible Green Smart Charger has an automatic shut-off feature to reduce unnecessary standby power when your device is not in use up to 85% with their integrated green technology.
|iPhone battery level||Visible current flowing speed|
|1% - 65%||Fast|
|65% - 99%||Slower|
You can see how fast your device is charging and how much energy you are saving with EL lights flowing through the cord.
Dexim sells the cable and charger for $30 or the cable alone for $20.
