I was a little skeptical of the Audyssey Audio Dock Air when I first saw it, but thanks to some changes, it's now a great deal. The first change is a $100 discount from the $400 list price. The second change is Apple's pending micro dock which will make traditional docking speakers somewhat obsolete. Finally, the third change is AirPlay integration in Macs and PCs, in the latest verion of iTunes, and Mountain Lion.
So what does the Audyssey Audio Dock Air do? It's a speaker dock that is strictly wireless, specifically using Apple's AirPlay. AirPlay is superior to Bluetooth as you don't have the typical issues with distance and cutting in and out that Bluetooth brings. As long as you have one or more Apple devices (and who doesn't these days) you can route your audio to the Audyssey Audio Dock Air quite easily over AirPlay.
Unlike Bluetooth, you can also link up to three of the devices for a multi-room audio solution! No wiring and you get an instant high-end electronic house! Or even better, apartment since you don't have to run wires through walls! With the $100 discount, it becomes even more practical to buy two or three units!
The Audyssey Audio Dock Air can be tucked away, under an end table, or displayed proudly. It's reminiscent of the monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey, which the product's name (Audyssey) plays off of! You might even think it's an oversized router or an external storage device, at least until the sound starts coming out of it! And it does a great job of delivering sound, especially Bass thanks to passive bass radiators and what they call Audyssey BassXT.
