When an app like ContactsXL3 + Sync from Jonathon Teboul hits the app store, one tends to wonder why it takes a third-party developer to provide iPhone users with this level of quality and functionality.
ContactsXL 3 + Sync is a contact manager that blows the native app right out of the water. Basically, the point of ContactsXL 3 + Sync is to do everything the native iPhone address book should do, but it doesn’t. It’s also got some added extras you didn’t even know you were missing.
When searching for a contact, or organizing contacts, the last thing you want is for the app to be difficult to navigate. ContactsXL 3 + Sync does an absolutely gorgeous job of making contact information accessible and available to you, more efficiently than you’ve ever imagined. Search for contacts by using info stored in any field of their contact card. Or, browse through your contacts using Coverflow, a unique feature that lets you find the desired contact by exploring an animated gallery.
The app also lets you organize contacts into groups, through your device, and send mass texts/emails by indicating a group rather than entering individual contacts. Very smooth. Plus, the groups feature also comes with a “smart groups” option—define the rules, and “smart groups” populate automatically! And, yet another way that Contacts XL 3 + Sync makes the native app look like a knock-off: Facebook integration, including contact-based status feeds, links to profiles from the contact card, and auto-syncing contact info from Facebook right to your phone.
The interface is intuitive and the app looks slick. You have to see Coverflow to appreciate it. And ContactsXL 3 + Sync also includes a very snazzy T9 dialer with all the bells and whistles you’d expect, which suggests contact numbers based on what you’ve already entered.
This app so drastically improves the functionality of the contact list, $0.99 seems like charity. It’s compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch, & iPad and requires iOS 4.0 or later. Check it out!
