the fantastic four methods of getting revenue from apps

Today I would like to spent some time to talk about the question: "How to make money with iPhone apps?"

I know, I know we all know how to do that: Have an idea, make the app, and publish! Apple will pay you 70% of how much they sell, and that is the way. But doing iPhone app development myself I experienced that there are lots of other options you have, and just selling apps might not be the best option.

Option 2) You make an app, and give it away for free, but you include adds from a third party (like Admob or similar services) and for each download or each time your app is used you get a share.

me, Ariel, and the designer

This anecdote is too sweet not to share it with you. And it also contains a message...

You might know, I do freelance iPhone application development. And in this particular case I was hired by a company that had sold the whole package like marketing and development to a client, who wanted to have a cookbook made. And obviously I will not disclose who is who. But the players are: me and my company contact who hired me vs. the cook and the designer. But the original contract was between the cook and my company contact, which I will call Mr C. from now on. After quite some back and forth, the design schemes arrived at my desk, containing all the images, the recipes and a description. You must know, that I assemble everything, write the code, and make the final product.

use protection - use a NDA

Sorry for that catchy title, but this post is about NDA aka: Non Disclosure Agreements.

You know, I am posting about "how you can get your own app on iTunes" by using freelance agents or companies that help you make your own app.  And in the beginning of every discussion, project, or idea, there is the NDA. This simple form comes in many different flavors, simply check google on that topic, and you will find a NDA template that fits your needs.

But what does this NDA do for you? It protects your idea from being stolen. As simple as that. Don't go on any website and post your idea. Chances are that someone reads it, and publishes it in no time. And your idea is gone...

Your own Personal App

Hi,

I am the new guy here, and I am not going to blog about a cool new gadget or a fancy new apps. Be assured the other bloggers do very well keeping you informed. No, I am going to address something different: "your own personal app!"

My observation is that the status symbol of the iPhone itself  becomes more and more replaced by having your own app on iTunes. I do freelance app development, and a year or two ago most apps were developed for companies - strictly business. But I encounter more and more people who just want to have their own app. Like a new stamp in a collection, people love seeing their own application-icon on the screen of their iPhones.
